New Balance 2020

As part of the initial presentation/development of New Balance, we want to compile an array of anecdotes from the LGBTQ experience to weave into the show itself. We’re particularly interested in stories that intersect between the queer experience and the social model of disability. You can tell us as little or as much as you want, it can (and perhaps should) be totally anonymous, and ideally not require much set-up or back story.

Let your imagination run wild - but here are some prompts to get you started:

What are the moments in your life that you didn’t realise were universal until you compared them with other queer or disabled people?

Moments you felt scared? Or sexy? The moments you felt empowered? Ashamed?

What are the moments that helped to form your identity as an adult - in good and bad ways?

Is there anyone who had an impact on your life far greater than their presence in your life? (A one night stand that got you to rethink your relationship with your body? A new friend who immediately gave you a new perspective on life?)

This can all be as literal as you want - whatever you’re comfortable sharing and however you want to share it, with the caveat that we may use it in this first presentation of New Balance (with appropriate acknowledgements). If you’d prefer to video or audio record yourself and send it in, chuck us an email at beforeshot@gmail.com and we’ll work it out - we’re also very happy to call you and transcribe your story if you need us to.
